How to use your PlayStation 3 to watch movies, videos, etc from your COMPUTER on your television.First of all, you want to make sure you download Windows Media Player Version 11, or newer.
It's not my favorite version of Media Player, but it's needed in order to share Media from your PC to other pc's, or your ps3.
Here's what you do!
Using Windows Media Player 11 as the server1. Open Windows Media Player 11
2. From the toolbar, select Library then Media Sharing
3. Check "Share my media"
4. On the PS3 - Under Video, Photos or Music, select "Scan for media server"
5. Go back to the PC, and you should see a pop up showing an unknown device trying to connect.
Allow the device, and everything should work.
There are a few more options as well, I've got this installed for back up, in case Media Player 11 is acting up. Plus, it's able to convert on the fly, so if Windows Media Player won't play a file, try this solution:Using Simplecenter as the server
Download Simplecenter from http://www.simplecenter.com/1. Install - If you only want the basic version, just click next when it asks you to create an account.
2. Select your shared media folders and let it scan.
3. Click next one last time.
4. Check your PS3 under 'video' and your media server should now be visible.
Other Windows NotesI've heard that many people are using
Nero MediaHome and consider it to be the most feature-rich server. I haven't tried it myself yet, but I probably should.
To Give Credit Where Credit is due, I did a write up on this myself, but found it worded in a way I liked better at this blog:
